Sand Pail List, Revisited

Sand and Toys

In May, I created my “Sand Pail List” of things I wanted to accomplish this summer. How’d we do? Let’s take a look:

Going to the park
We did go to local playgrounds, but not nearly as often as I’d intended–except for when we were in Santa Barbara. We went to a lot of playgrounds in Santa Barbara.

Summer concerts
Not one. Turns out that the ones held in my friend’s town are on Sunday nights, which didn’t work for us, and we never investigated the ones closer to home. Maybe next year.

Going to the beach
We got to the beach three times this summer, and are going again once Baguette gets her cast off. Labor Day may be over, but southern California’s summer is not.

Swimming lessons
Happening right now! Well, not right now. But we’ve enrolled Baguette in the current session at our local Y, because you cannot keep her out of the water. (Me, either.)

Cooking
Err . . . I’ve done a little, but certainly not as much as I meant to. And I still haven’t gotten back to that farmers’ market.

Well, there’s always fall. What should I call that one–maybe Leaf Bag List? I wonder if that works in the land of no fall colors.

    1. Here in southern California we have seasons that I refer to as “summer” and “not quite summer,” so there is a lot of opportunity.

  1. When I lived in San Diego, there was Spring, Summer, Not-Quite Summer, and June Gloom (the only time of year that there was a chance of overcast, and the native Californians got VERY down about it. I mocked them behind their backs.) I do remember that it was almost never too cold to go to the beach, though it might be too cold to swim.

    1. We get June Gloom here, too, but lately it seems like we get bouts of it at other times of the year as well. But it falls into my “not-quite-summer” category.

    1. Thanks! I’m still playing around with the design, but I think it’s headed in the right direction.

  2. I decided to stop feeling bad that we also live in So Cal and have only gone to the beach once, and that was during a road trip nonetheless. I like the idea of having idea lists but then feel all bad if I don’t get to do them all. So I just stick to whatever comes!

    1. I figure that I’ll do the things that really matter to me, and if I don’t get to it, that’s fine. For example, I had a goal that was not on this list: to work my way through the photography book Mr. Sandwich gave me for my birthday and become more skilled with the SLR. Didn’t happen, but that’s okay because neither the book nor the SLR have gone anywhere!

  3. For me, making goals is so important. It keeps me focused, and even if I don’t accomplish all of them, or only half-accomplish some of them, it feels like I’m moving in a direction. I am seriously going to consider a Leaf Bag List!

    1. If I were good with illustrations, I’d create a little Leaf Bag List icon that we could use. But I can’t even figure out how to add a texture to the background of this blog–Photoshop layers are harder than they ought to be.
