Welcome to Summer!

Never mind that in California, we barely got a winter. What’s on my to-do list for this summer?

Sand Pail List

Go to the beach
A must-do. We all like the beach, and I think Baguette would like to live there. Well, really, so would her parents.

Go to the pool
On it. Mr. Sandwich is taking Baguette during the week, and we made our first family visit today. Baguette wanted me to jump off the diving board–something I haven’t done in at least 35 years–and then couldn’t watch when I did. But we’re hoping that Baguette will regain last year’s love of swimming, which faded over the winter in spite of our best efforts to find a pool for her. So this will definitely be a part of our summer.

Learn to make a really good hamburger
Right now, I can make a really good hockey puck.

It’s a short list, but I think it’s a good one. What’s on yours?

  1. Library, lots of reading, a short trip to the beach. We do need to find some swim lessons for Zilla, but I fear that we’ve waited too long and may have to actually wait for fall.
Tip for your burgers – less is more. As in less stuff in them (we’ve found our best ones are pretty much meat, salt, pepper) less handling of the meat with your hands, and less cooking time. Took me years to get to graduate out of hockey puck. 🙂
    Happy summer!

    1. I do love reading. And Baguette loves books. I can tell because she will open one up, smash her face into it, and yell, “I. Love. BOOKS!”

And thanks for the burger tips. I can use them.

  2. We have beach on our list, too. Also going to the Zoo at Night, and heading down the street to watch the Sea World Fireworks at least once. I like to try to eat outside as often as we can, too.

    1. We have a large covered patio that has become a wood shop (post on that to come), so we don’t eat out there a lot these days. Sounds like you’re looking forward to a fun summer!

  3. Beach as well, which we’ve scheduled in. Hoping to catch some free outdoor plays in the park which our city offers.

As far as burgers, 2 tips: 1) Push the middle part of the bigger in so that it’s thinner than the outside. Burgers tend to get puffy in the middle, so by thinning it out, it’ll come out even. And 2) don’t smash your burger down with the spatula. This just toughens it up.

    Happy summer!
